Internship experience at Moja mavrica
5. 5. 2026
While studying in Slovenia through the Erasmus+ program, I had the opportunity to be part of an organisation known for its open-mindedness and warm atmosphere. Before joining, I must admit I had little knowledge of what Moja Mavrica stands for or its values. However, during my time there, I learned far more than I ever expected. From my very visit, I felt welcomed with genuine kindness and respect. Moja Mavrica made me feel both grounded and understood, while also teaching me lessons that I will carry with me for a lifetime.
At the beginning, my main uncertainty was about my role withing the organisation. However, these doubts quickly disappeared after my first visit, when I experienced how the community functions from within. I had the opportunity to participate in activities led by fellow interns and guest speakers, which deepened my understanding of topics such as LGBTQ+ issues, neurodiversity, and mental health. My mentor, Michelle, played an important role in helping me understand the purpose and impact of social work withing the community. At the same time, conversations with other members broadened my perspective on society and its structures.
Reflecting its name, I would associate this organisation with the colour red. From the outside, it may appear intense or unfamiliar, but within, it represents warmth, passion, and determination. It is an organisation deeply committed to equality, ant-discrimination, human rights, and mental well-being. I feel honoured and grateful to have contributed, even in a small way, to a cause that strives to create meaningful change. I can confidently recommend this non-governmental organisation to social work students and practitioners who want to make a difference and challenge existing norms. And, of course, Slovenia itself is an added gift – its mountains, rivers, and natural beauty make the experience even more memorable.
I would like to thank my mentor and all the members of the community who warmly welcomed me and helped me truly understand the organisation’s purpose and spirit.
